How Many Coupons Can You Use at ASDA?

ASDA does not currently use one simple maximum number for all Rewards coupons. Instead, the limit depends on the coupon type. You can use only one spend coupon in a shop, while product coupons can be combined across eligible products but only one product coupon can be applied to any individual product.

How Many Coupons Can You Use at ASDA?

That means the answer could be one coupon in one basket or several coupons in another basket. The key is to identify whether each coupon is a spend coupon or a product coupon.

First Identify Which Type of Coupon You Have

ASDA Rewards currently describes two main coupon types.

Product coupons

These give a discount connected to a particular eligible product or product offer.

Spend coupons

These provide a discount after reaching a specified qualifying spend, such as spending a stated amount and receiving money off the shop.

The rules for these two coupon types are not the same.

Only One Spend Coupon Can Apply to a Shop

ASDA’s current Rewards terms say only one spend coupon can be applied to any one shop.

Suppose you have two eligible spend coupons in the app. One offers money off when you spend £40 and another offers money off when you spend £60.

You should not expect both spend coupons to stack in the same transaction. The current rule limits the shop to one spend coupon.

Product Coupons Work Differently

Product coupons can be used alongside other offers unless the individual coupon says otherwise.

However, only one product coupon can be applied to a product in one shop.

This prevents several product coupons from being stacked onto the same individual eligible item.

Several Product Coupons Can Potentially Apply Across One Basket

The one-product-coupon rule applies to the individual product rather than imposing a universal one-coupon limit on the whole basket.

For example, if you have one qualifying coupon for laundry detergent and another qualifying coupon for coffee, both could potentially apply in the same shop because they relate to different eligible purchases.

Each coupon still has to satisfy its own product, spend, expiry and availability conditions.

A Simple Coupon Example

Imagine your ASDA Rewards Wallet contains four coupons:

  • £5 off a £50 shop.
  • £3 off a £30 shop.
  • £1 off an eligible laundry product.
  • 50p off an eligible cereal product.

The two spend coupons cannot both apply to the same shop because only one spend coupon is allowed.

The two product coupons could potentially apply as well if you buy the required eligible products and the individual coupon terms allow it.

Coupons Can Work With Other Offers

ASDA currently states that Rewards coupons can be used in conjunction with other offers unless the individual coupon says otherwise.

This means an eligible product can sometimes already be part of an Asda promotion and still qualify for the coupon.

The wording on the individual coupon remains important because Asda can attach more specific conditions to a particular promotion.

Minimum Spend Is Calculated Under Specific Rules

If a coupon requires a minimum qualifying spend, some parts of the checkout do not count towards that threshold.

Asda currently says delivery charges and minimum basket charges are excluded when calculating a coupon’s minimum spend.

Excluded products also do not become qualifying coupon spend simply because they are physically present in the basket.

Some Products Are Excluded From Coupons

Current ASDA Rewards coupon exclusions include petrol and petrol-station items, postage stamps, tobacco and related products, gift vouchers and gift cards, lottery products, phone top-ups, pharmacy, NHS prescriptions, infant formula and third-party concessions or products.

Alcohol is also an excluded item for these coupon rules in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

This means a £50 till total does not necessarily equal £50 of qualifying spend for a spend coupon.

Online Coupons Can Apply Automatically

When shopping through ASDA Grocery Home Shopping with an eligible Rewards account linked to the grocery account, qualifying coupons can be applied automatically.

Asda’s current terms say any and all coupons that qualify for an online order will automatically be applied to the shop, subject to the coupon rules.

The one-spend-coupon and one-product-coupon-per-product restrictions still define what can actually qualify.

In Store, Scan Your Rewards Card and Coupon

For an in-store Rewards coupon, the coupon barcode and the customer’s ASDA Rewards digital card need to be scanned.

This links the offer to the account that received it. Rewards coupons are personal and currently cannot be transferred or sold to another shopper.

Coupons Cannot Be Added After the Shop

ASDA Rewards coupons cannot currently be redeemed retrospectively.

If you forget to use an eligible coupon and complete the transaction without it, the current terms do not provide a way to apply that coupon afterwards to the completed purchase.

Do Not Confuse Coupons With Cashpot Vouchers

ASDA Rewards coupons and ASDA Rewards vouchers are different.

Coupons are promotional offers issued to selected Rewards members. Rewards vouchers are created from ASDA Pounds accumulated in your Cashpot.

You can have multiple Rewards vouchers, and current Asda rules explain how several valid vouchers are applied to a shop. That is separate from the one-spend-coupon rule.

The ASDA section provides wider supermarket information, while ASDA online shopping explains the grocery ordering system where online coupons can apply.

The Coupon Limit in One Sentence

You can currently use only one spend coupon in an ASDA shop, while multiple eligible product coupons can potentially be used across the basket as long as no individual product has more than one product coupon applied to it.
