You can spend ASDA Rewards vouchers on eligible shopping in ASDA stores and on ASDA online Grocery Home Shopping. You cannot spend the Cashpot balance directly: ASDA Pounds must first be converted into a voucher.
Rewards vouchers can cover all or part of an eligible shop, but several categories are excluded. Petrol, tobacco, gift cards, lottery products, phone top-ups, pharmacy purchases, NHS prescriptions and third-party concessions are among the items that cannot be paid for with a standard ASDA Rewards voucher.
Think of ASDA Rewards in Three Stages
The easiest way to understand what you can spend is to separate earning, converting and redeeming.
- You earn ASDA Pounds into your Cashpot.
- You convert some or all of the available Cashpot into a voucher.
- You use that voucher against an eligible ASDA shop.
The Cashpot itself is therefore not used like a bank balance at the till. The voucher is the part of ASDA Rewards that actually reduces the cost of your shopping.
Most Normal Grocery Shopping Can Be Covered
A standard Rewards voucher can be used against eligible products in an ASDA store or through online Grocery Home Shopping.
This includes the kinds of ordinary supermarket purchases that make up most grocery baskets, provided the products are not within one of ASDA’s excluded categories.
You can use a voucher for full payment of the eligible part of a shop or as part-payment when the basket costs more than the voucher.
You Cannot Spend Rewards Vouchers on Petrol
ASDA specifically excludes petrol and purchases made from petrol stations from standard Rewards voucher redemption.
This remains true even when the petrol station carries the ASDA name or is attached to a Superstore.
A £10 Rewards voucher therefore cannot normally be used to reduce a £10 fuel purchase.
Tobacco, Lottery and Phone Top-Ups Are Also Excluded
Standard ASDA Rewards vouchers cannot be used for tobacco or tobacco-related products, National Lottery purchases or phone top-up cards and vouchers.
If your basket contains both eligible groceries and excluded products, the voucher can only be applied against the eligible portion of the transaction.
Gift Cards Cannot Be Bought With Rewards Vouchers
Gift vouchers and gift cards are excluded from standard ASDA Rewards voucher spending.
This prevents Cashpot value from being converted into a Rewards voucher and then effectively transferred into another gift-card balance.
Pharmacy and NHS Prescriptions Are Excluded
ASDA lists pharmacy purchases and NHS prescriptions among the categories that cannot be paid for using standard Rewards vouchers.
This is separate from whether an ASDA store has a pharmacy. A pharmacy may operate within the supermarket, but its purchases are treated differently for voucher redemption.
Third-Party Concessions Have Their Own Rules
Products or services supplied through third-party concessions are also excluded under ASDA’s standard Rewards terms.
A concession may physically sit inside an ASDA store without being part of the eligible ASDA transaction against which a Rewards voucher can be redeemed.
Can You Spend ASDA Rewards on Alcohol?
Alcohol is not listed among the standard voucher exclusions for ordinary ASDA shopping in Great Britain.
However, specific promotional coupons, Boost Vouchers or regional terms can impose additional restrictions. In Northern Ireland, alcohol can be excluded from certain Rewards coupon promotions.
The terms attached to the particular voucher or promotion should therefore be checked when alcohol forms part of the basket.
Online Grocery Shopping Is Included
ASDA Rewards vouchers can be used against eligible online Grocery Home Shopping when your active Rewards account is linked to your grocery account.
ASDA applies eligible vouchers automatically during the online checkout process, subject to the value of the order and the usual excluded-item rules.

George.com Is Not Included in Standard Online Rewards Redemption
ASDA’s Rewards terms specifically distinguish Grocery Home Shopping from George.com.
A Rewards voucher that can be used against an eligible grocery order should therefore not be assumed to work on a separate George.com clothing or homeware order.
Boost Vouchers Can Be More Restricted
ASDA occasionally runs Boost campaigns where Cashpot value can be exchanged for a voucher worth more than the standard conversion.
A Boost Voucher can be limited to a particular range of products specified by the promotion. It may have no value against items outside that range.
This makes a Boost Voucher different from an ordinary Rewards voucher even though both originate from your Cashpot.
The Basket Must Be Large Enough for the Voucher
ASDA requires the eligible value of the shop to be at least equal to the value of the voucher being applied.
For example, if you have a £10 voucher but only £8 of your basket is eligible after excluded products and discounts are removed, that £10 voucher cannot simply be partially reduced to £8 at an in-store checkout.
The voucher remains subject to its expiry date until it can be used on an eligible transaction.
